Paraplegic race-car driver Ray Paprota drove his way into the NASCAR history books when he competed in the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series Georgia Pacific 150 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on October 25, 2002, reportedly becoming the first wheelchair user to race in a NASCAR-sanctioned event. Paprota first began racing stock cars five years ago when he modified a Legends Series car and competed throughout the Southeast. Read about his groundbreaking NASCAR experience in the March 2003 SPORTS 'N SPOKES, along with reports on Utah's Huntsman Cup Alpine Race, where 61 elite and junior physically disabled athletes from around the world enjoyed the pulse-pounding excitement of ski racing, and the 24th World Armwrestling Federation Championships—the first world championships with a disabled team from the U.S.A.

In a tight match for the 24th World Armwrestling Federation Championships gold medal, Paul Taylor (left) outmuscled Roger Clowers for the top prize in the right-handed 133-165-lb class.
