What is your New Year’s Resolution?
The top two New Year’s resolutions are related to either physical
weight or money. I will not be having a typical resolution. I want to be and feel physically, mentally and emotionally healthy. The trifecta.
Unfortunately, I got in a car accident last Wednesday and it has been a setback in those fields. The car accident wasn’t too bad besides a neck and shoulder sprain, but since I have a spinal cord injury they had me get checked out at the hospital. I was fine until I saw my reflection in that bubble on the ceiling of the same hospital I was taken to after my accident- I felt weak again. I had to stay home and rest, but I made sure I still did plenty of transfers, standing frame and eating well. We are human and all allowed to have these moments, but also recognize what you can do. So persevere, do not give up; you will be setting yourself up for success.
On that note, I will be an ambassador this weekend with other disabled athletes as Ms. Wheelchair Maine 2011 at the Tour de Stowe in Stowe,VT. I am excited and nervous; I haven't even been on or near a ski resort since my accident...eek! This is why I have been training this whole time, to get back into skiing. This seemed like the perfect opportunity. I will be trying the cross-country adaptive skiing and yup, the more I write about it the more anxious I get! I will let you know how it goes next week...
This will also be the last event for me as Ms. Wheelchair Maine 2011. I am hosting Ms. Wheelchair Maine 2012 (as the state director) for the next inspiring group of women to compete for the title. Bittersweet.
Well, the bags are packed and it's time to go...
