Build It — They'll Come

Saturday, November 1, 2003 - 12:00am

A place where people—with and without disabilities—can come to exercise, play basketball, take a few laps around the track, or simply socialize is about to be born.

Ready to enjoy the new facility is the Steelwheelers basketball team (from left): Claude Scott, Lee Tempest, Norah Schneider, John Snyder, and Darius Carlins.

Many sports facilities around the country are available for amateur athletes. One such place is being built in western Pennsylvania, but it is like no other in the United States. It will be similar to some other modern complexes in many ways—it will have three basketball courts, state-of-the-art fitness and weight-training equipment, a track, locker rooms, kitchen, and social areas. But unlike most facilities around the country, this one has been designed specifically to meet the needs of people with disabilities.

Read about plans for this 36,000-square-foot dream-come-true (scheduled for completion in 2005) in this month's issue of S’NS.
