Discounted fertility services now available for veterans

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology are now offering a discounted fertility services program called “Service to Veterans.” Member clinics across the country will be providing deeply discounted in-vitro fertilization services to severely injured veterans.

While the Department of Defense (DOD) does provide reproductive services to service members, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is prohibited from doing so by law.

While the details of the programs will vary from clinic to clinic, most will be offering at least a 50% discount to veterans whose service-related injuries have impaired their ability to conceive children.

To determine eligibility, many of the clinics will be using the criteria developed by the DOD for active-duty personnel. The program will expire when Congress lifts the ban on the VA providing these services or when Congress adjourns at the end of 2016, whichever occurs first.
