A bill to help veterans with injuries that prevent them from naturally conceiving a child was pulled from the Senate this summer.

The legislation, S. 469, the “Women Veterans and Families Health Services Act,” would lift a ban on the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) providing fertility services to veterans with catastrophic disabilities such as spinal-cord injury and disease. While the Department of Defense provides assisted reproductive technologies, such as in vitro fertilization, to service members, the VA doesn’t.
