Accessible Grand Canyon made possible through a new guide.

A large, rugged national park might not seem like the most wheelchair-friendly atmosphere, especially at the rocky, steep Grand Canyon. However, accessible-travel writer Candy Harrington found a way to make it happen.

Her new book Barrier-Free Travel: The Grand Canyon for Wheelers and Slow Walkers is out just in time for those cool fall weekends in Arizona. The book offers ideas for accessible trails, sites, restrooms, transportation and hotels — including specific rooms — all throughout Grand Canyon National Park.

Wheelchair travelers can find accessible options for guided tours and even a driving route to reach the bottom of the canyon from the comfort of their vehicle.
