Rich Berman was named the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Wheelchair Professional of the Year in February at the 2014 PTR International Tennis Symposium in Hilton Head, S.C.

The Boulder, Colo., resident has coached the top player in the world — David Hall — since 1993. Additionally, Berman and Bill Trubey wrote PTR Instructing Wheelchair Tennis and produced the PTR Introduction to Teaching Wheelchair Tennis video. Last year, Berman launched a website, letsrollwheelchairtennis.com, with Hall. The site offers video tutorials to help coaches and wheelchair athletes teach and play wheelchair tennis.

Berman had already been named the PTR Volunteer of the Year in 1999 and was presented the Arthur Ashe Award for outstanding contributions to the underserved by the United States Tennis Association in 2012.

Professional Tennis Registry is the largest global organization of tennis-teaching professionals with more than 14,600 members in 121 counties, according to ptrtennis.org. PTR is dedicated to educating, certifying and servicing tennis teachers and coaches around the world in order to grow the game.
