The best boccia players in the world will head to Kansas this summer for the 2013 Boccia Americas Cup.
BlazeSports America, the national governing body of U.S. boccia, has announced the Kansas City area will host the 2013 Boccia Americas Cup, August 2–9. Similar to bocce ball, boccia is for athletes with severe physical disabilities.
The cup is the first of three qualifying competitions for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games. In addition to the United States, countries expected to compete are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Columbia, Mexico and Venezuela.
The home-court advantage should help the performance of U.S. players. The cup is also an opportunity for developing boccia players to see the best athletes and learn techniques and strategies.
The competition will take place at the New Century Field House near Gardner, Kan. The host hotel is the Holiday Inn Olathe, Kan.
