Gage Martinez and Jamarea Welch are tops in Veterans Day poster and essay contest.

Contest winners Gage Martinez and Jamarea Welch were PVA's guests on Veterans Day in Washington, D.C.
Veterans Day 2012 came and went a few months ago, but the pride over some creative posters and essays about vets remains.
Gage Martinez of Deweyville, Texas, and Jamarea Welch of Chicago were the grand-prize winners in the Paralyzed Veterans of America’s (PVA) ninth annual Veterans Day Poster and Essay Contest. Martinez was the winner for his poster submission, and Welch took top honors for her essay entry.
Students were asked to submit posters and essays showing or telling a personal story about a veteran who has made a difference in their life or hometown.
Martinez, a student at Deweyville Elementary School, and Welch, who attends St. Angela School, traveled to Washington, D.C., in November for Veterans Day ceremonies and a PVA reception.
Category winners by grade were also selected. Each category winner received a special plaque, a $100 educational gift certificate and a plaque for their school acknowledging their achievement.
