Since January 2009, the Department of Defense (DOD) Physical Disability Board of Review has re­viewed cases for veterans (discharged between 9/11/01 and 12/31/09, with a 0, 10, or 20% combined disability) to determine if they should have received a disability retirement (30% combined disability or higher).

Since January 2009, the Department of Defense (DOD) Physical Disability Board of Review has re­viewed cases for veterans (discharged between 9/11/01 and 12/31/09, with a 0, 10, or 20% combined disability) to determine if they should have received a disability retirement (30% combined disability or higher).

Of the roughly 70,000 eligible veterans, just over 2,100 have applied as of March 2011. Of these, about 56% have been recommended for recharacterization as permanent disability retirement.

DOD is trying to get the word out about the existence of this board to those eligible for review.
