New Access Board Chair

On March 28, 2011, Nancy Starnes was elected Access Board chair. Appointed to the board in 2008 by President Bush, Starnes has been active in disability rights advocacy for more than 30 years and has served on numerous organizational and consumer boards and coalitions.

On March 28, 2011, Nancy Starnes was elected Access Board chair. Appointed to the board in 2008 by President Bush, Starnes has been active in disability rights advocacy for more than 30 years and has served on numerous organizational and consumer boards and coalitions.

Starnes was chief operating officer of the Paralysis Society of America, a subsidiary of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, in the late 1990s. After PSA closed, she served as director of External Affairs for the National Organization on Disability, where she led efforts to increase equality for people with disabilities in the nation’s towns, cities, and counties. She also was mayor of Sparta, N.J.
