Social Security Benefits
Eligibility for disability benefits and veterans benefits differs.
With the economy unpredictable and still in trouble, some people living with spinal-cord injuries (SCI) and their families are struggling financially. Paralyzed veterans can rely on veterans benefits but are restricted to using the VA healthcare system for medical treatment. If you want other options, you may want to pursue Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits.
The problem: Just because you’ve been approved for veterans benefits doesn’t mean you’ll be automatically accepted for SSD. The criteria for eligibility are different. Plus, most people find the application process complicated and time consuming. Learning how to navigate the system can mean the difference between being accepted or denied for SSD benefits.
