Tour buses get millions in grans to equip their vehicles with wheelchair lifts.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued $20 million in grants to help 128 intercity and tour bus operators equip their over-the-road buses (OTRBs, e.g., Greyhound) with wheelchair lifts.
The Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Over-the-Road Bus Program has been in place since 1998, helping bus lines accommodate people with disabilities by adding lifts and other accessibility components to new vehicles and by retrofitting existing ones.
