“I am a 26-year-old paraplegic who loves to travel,” says Ashley Olson. “Traveling enlightens the spirit, and anyone seeking this should be able to experience it.” Olson has visited Greece, Turkey, Mexico, and Germany, “in which accessibility vastly differs. ”Even in the U.S., Olson has found some areas are more accessible than others. “Last September I visited the East Coast for the first time. It never occurred to me that store fronts would have stairs to the entrance because of winter snow,” she says. “This kind of barrier is only one example of many that wheelchair travelers would value knowing when planning a trip.

”Olson’s mission is to turn the Web site wheelchairtraveling.com into the ultimate international resource for wheelchair users. “An avid photographer, I have incorporated beautiful images to support the information and help tell the story of a destination,” Olson explains. Her most recent guides are of Sedona, Ariz., and the Grand Canyon. In November, she will visit Italy and Portugal. Other people have added travel stories, photos, and videos or suggested travel equipment and places to rent.
