National Family Caregivers Month 2007 proclaims: Speak up for your rights!

November is National Family Caregivers Month, and the National Family Caregivers Association (NFCA) once again encourages everyone to take notice.

In 2005, NFCA launched "The Caring Every Day Campaign" during NFC Month to bring attention to the needs of family caregivers and to help them gain some control over their lives. The campaign messages offered three steps that we as family caregivers can take every day to enhance the quality of our lives and improve the care we provide our loved ones:
Believe in yourself.
Protect your health.
Reach out for help.

This year we are adding a fourth message: Speak Up for Your Rights!

What does it mean to "speak up" when you are a family caregiver? On the simplest level, it's about raising the sound of our voice so others can better hear us. Speaking up is how we solve problems. It's how we learn. It's how we educate. It's how we bring about change.

Suzanne Mintz expands on the topic of speaking up for your rights, and describes how anger even plays a role.
